When Zipper was brought to the shelter after being found wandering the streets as a stray, the staff quickly realized that the 8-year-old dog was a bit different. Despite her cheerful and friendly personality, one thing set her apart: a deformed jaw that gives her a unique and irresistibly charming smile.
According to staff at Huntsville Animal Services, Zipper’s unique smile doesn’t seem to affect her at all. She eats normally, loves treats, and seems completely unaware of her distinct appearance.
Erin Webb, a volunteer with Huntsville Animal Services, told The Dodo, “We’re not sure what led to the jaw malformation. We really have no idea what caused it.” She added, “The dog has a significant underbite, and her teeth are spaced quite far apart.”
Zipper likely spent most of her life outdoors and was not given the proper care she needed, as seen from her condition when she arrived at the shelter. She suffers from significant fur loss due to flea allergies and appears to have had multiple litters of puppies in the past. It’s possible she was abandoned when she was no longer wanted or useful, but her new shelter family sees how special she is and is eager to help her find a loving forever home.
Zipper might stand out from the crowd of other dogs, but her unique smile instantly draws you in, making you want to know more about her.
“She’s a calm and gentle soul, especially now that she’s older,” Webb shared. “Zipper prefers cozy cuddles to going on adventures. She enjoys spending time with the other dogs and has even bonded with Mr. Mike, our other senior pup.”
Zipper is friendly with other dogs and seems to enjoy the company of children. With her gentle and loving demeanor, she would likely thrive in many different home environments, as noted by the shelter. Having likely faced challenges in her past, Zipper is now seeking a nurturing family where she can relax and be embraced for her true self.
