Each dog is unique, and we’re incredibly lucky to have them in our lives. Yet, every so often, a dog comes along with extraordinary instincts that set them apart from the rest. This is the story of Aladdin, a remarkable dog. Aladdin, a Pit Bull, had a rough start in life. He was neglected and overlooked. By the time he ended up in a kill shelter, he was severely malnourished, missing 12 teeth, and suffering from significant orthopedic issues.
The lovable Pit Bull can’t bend his back legs and has developed a unique way of sitting, lying down, and walking to cope with his condition. Fortunately, his soon-to-be mom, Michele, found him at the kill shelter and instantly fell in love. In the video below, she shares how, despite all the hardship and pain he’d endured, he wagged his tail the moment they met!
Within a year of his adoption, Aladdin became a certified therapy dog, thanks to his remarkable ability to connect with others. He has a special bond with children and, even in a crowded room, Aladdin always manages to find the person who needs him most. While no one can say for sure, it seems as though he senses emotional distress. Perhaps it’s due to his own difficult past, or maybe it’s because of the lingering discomfort in his misshapen legs.
Aladdin was at the scene of the Orlando nightclub shooting, navigating through the large crowd to reach a man. Amidst the chaos, it was hard to tell who needed support, but Aladdin knew. He went straight to a man who later said, “This dog looked at me and knew I needed him.” Once inside the club, Aladdin’s presence made it clear how important it was for this man to feel safe. It was a deeply touching moment.
This amazing dog not only helps people but also supports other dogs that have experienced abuse or trauma. Despite all that Aladdin does for both humans and dogs, he still faces the stigma associated with his breed. His mother knows firsthand how challenging this can be. While children are eager to pet Aladdin, some parents pull their kids away once they realize he’s a Pit Bull. Michele, Aladdin’s mom, is determined to change this perception! She loves to dress him up to make him appear more approachable, even if it means going the extra mile!
Aladdin has also received significant recognition, being named “Therapy Dog of the Year” by the American Humane Association. This was a pivotal moment for him. At the award dinner, a man approached Michele and offered to perform surgery on Aladdin at no cost. The vet was confident that the procedure would alleviate much of his orthopedic pain. Isn’t that amazing?
We assure you that Aladdin’s story will continue to improve. This dog has truly amazed us with his incredible ability to connect with both people and other dogs in need.
