He made the choice to save him when he was in danger, but now that he’s out of harm’s way, he finds himself embraced by pure, unconditional love.

One particularly fortunate dog is Griffon. At just six months old, this stray had spent so long on the streets that he had lost hope of ever finding a home.

However, fate took a turn when he crossed paths with a man who rescued him in an unexpected place—a foreign naval base.

❞A recent Facebook post by Paws of War, a nonprofit organization dedicated to training service dogs for veterans and first responders, shares a touching story. A U.S. Naval Commander spotted a small dog in a perilous situation and quickly realized the pup wouldn’t survive on its own. Remembering his unit’s motto, “Those who arrive alive, leave alive,” he scooped the little dog into his arms, feeling a deep sense of responsibility to protect this vulnerable creature.❝

Soon, everyone on base was eager to meet Griffon after hearing about him.

❞ The statement noted that although great care was given to Griffon, “the Commander formed a strong bond with the puppy, who now accompanies him everywhere.” “Little Griffon has truly become a member of the family, bringing joy to everyone’s day. ❝

Upon his return to the United States, the heroic commander has made the decision to adopt Griffon and bring him home. According to Gary Baumann, a spokesperson for Paws of War, the commander and Griffon will soon be reunited, although details about the reunion are limited.

❞In an interview with The Dodo, Baumann expressed admiration for Griffon as a puppy, noting that he is thriving, enjoys his meals, and loves interacting with every dog he meets.❝

Baumann added, “We’re planning a reunion soon. The commander hails from Maryland and will be welcoming Griffon back alongside his wife and children.”
