Each year, countless dogs are left in overheated cars, leading to devastating consequences. Heat stroke can be fatal for dogs, yet many owners still leave their pets in hot, confined spaces, subjecting them to extreme distress and potential death.
One particularly distressing incident took place last summer when a husky was found inside a sweltering car parked outside a Las Vegas casino, with her mouth taped shut.
Thankfully, the dog survived the ordeal and is now thriving, living her best life months after the incident.
On July 20, officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call about a 3-month-old husky puppy trapped inside an SUV in the parking lot of the Bellagio casino.
The temperature had soared to a scorching 113 degrees, and the dog’s mouth had been taped shut. Leaving a dog in a car is dangerous in any conditions, but the husky faced an unimaginable ordeal in such extreme heat—her life was in grave danger.
Officials reported that the dog had been trapped inside the vehicle for two hours while the owner was inside gambling, with no air conditioning, food, or water to provide relief.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department safely rescued the dog through the car’s sunroof. Bodycam footage showed the dog drooling and struggling to breathe due to the extreme heat.
Raul Carbajal, the 50-year-old owner, was arrested and charged with willful and cruel animal abuse.
Despite the horrifying situation, the dog’s life took a positive turn shortly after. The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas announced that the husky, now named Duchess, was adopted just weeks after her rescue!
According to the latest update from the shelter, Duchess has been thriving in her new home.
“She’s living with a loving family that absolutely adores her,” the Animal Foundation shared on Twitter. “She sneaks into the kids’ beds and loves spending time with her new fur siblings.”
Duchess’ previous owner was cruel and neglectful, but her new life with her adoptive family is a complete transformation. She’s even traveled across the U.S., visiting states like Nevada, California, and Arizona.
After being rescued from that blistering hot car, Duchess now has a love for the cold and never misses an opportunity to play in the snow.
“Talk about living the good life,” the Animal Foundation commented.
We’re overjoyed that Duchess’ story has had such a happy ending—rescued from a terrible situation, she’s now found the perfect home.
Thank you to her new family for showering her with love! Please help share this heartwarming story with others.
