At the BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas, hope is dwindling for an 11-month-old puppy to regain trust in humans. Two weeks ago, Scarlett’s foster parents rescued her, but they’ve since admitted that they lack the expertise to care for a dog as frightened and withdrawn as she is.
Scarlet was brought to the shelter as a stray on May 10, 2023. Weighing 45 pounds, she was identified as a Labrador retriever mix. Initially, she kept to herself, retreating to a corner of the shelter. She refused treats and would shake and tremble whenever anyone tried to come near her.
A dog named Scarlett was slated for euthanasia on May 15, but a BARC foster stepped in just in time to save her.
However, she has since been returned. It’s important to remember that it’s not Scarlett’s fault; she’s still learning to trust that people can be kind. We are now in need of a foster caregiver with experience in handling animals like Scarlett, who can offer her the care and patience she needs.
Please share her situation with your social media networks, family, close friends, and trusted rescue organizations. Spreading the word can help save lives.
