A three-month-old pit bull puppy named Sage, who faced a challenging start in life, has found a loving home with actor Dave Bautista.

Upon discovering Sage’s plight, the former wrestler—known for his affection for pit bulls—quickly reached out to the shelter to offer his help.

Sage was rescued by a compassionate passerby in a local cemetery, where she was rummaging through trash, and was later taken to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB).

As the adorable puppy approached her, the woman noticed a metal chain wrapped tightly around her neck. Concerned for the puppy’s well-being, she hurried her to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB) for help.

At the shelter, Sage was examined by the medical staff, who noted that she wagged her tail throughout the entire process. Following the examination, preparations were made for surgery to remove the chain.

In addition to the chain, the staff discovered that Sage had overgrown nails and skin conditions. “It’s shocking to think someone could treat her so cruelly,” reported the shelter.

David Bautista was among the many who expressed a desire to care for the sweet puppy or adopt her if she pulled through.

Furious at the thought of someone abusing such a vulnerable animal, David pledged to personally donate $5,000 to anyone who could provide information leading to an arrest and conviction. In addition to his contribution, there is a $1,500 reward from the Humane Society of Tampa Bay and $5,000 from Alvarez Injury Law for catching the perpetrator.

Although David had a tough exterior, he couldn’t hold back his emotions as he watched the dog run toward him. He laughed and beamed with joy as Sage drew near.

The instant he gently stroked her head, a strong bond formed between them. It wasn’t just David who was thrilled to welcome his newest family member.

As Sage nestled in her new dad’s arms, her happiness radiated.

The shelter announced Sage’s adoption to their Facebook supporters.

David felt a deep connection to Sage’s story, believing they were meant to be together. “We couldn’t be happier for Sage!”

Now named Penny, the young puppy will join David’s two other rescued pit bulls. In a video he shared on Instagram to introduce her to his followers, he said, “She’s about to have the best puppy life ever!”

“Adopt like David does!”
