Sundae, a coonhound and Labrador retriever mix, spent her entire life confined to a garage and a backyard filled with debris. Rescued by the Country Roads Animal Rescue Society from a dog hoarding situation in Oklahoma City, Sundae had never known the comfort of a home. Remarkably, she even gave birth to a litter of puppies without ever having set foot indoors.
That all changed when her foster mom introduced her to the comfort of a warm bed. As soon as Sundae lay down, her face showed pure relief.
For the first time, she felt the safety and security she had been missing.
Her foster mom, Mugglequeen, shared on Reddit, “We’ve had her for about a week, and you’d never guess she’s never lived indoors before.” She’s completely house-trained, incredibly gentle, and wonderfully well-mannered inside.
Mugglequeen named her Sundae, inspired by the dog’s sweet nature and the beautiful blend of chocolate, vanilla, and caramel hues on her face. Initially, Sundae was wary of men, but her foster mom helped her warm up by placing her boyfriend’s shorts on Sundae’s favorite spot—the bed.
Now, Sundae has become incredibly affectionate, constantly snuggling with her foster mom. “She loves sleeping as close to me as possible,” Mugglequeen shared. “I think she’s just making up for eight years of missed love and affection.”
After years of lacking proper medical care, Sundae is finally getting the attention she needs. While she’s in good health overall, her vet discovered she is heartworm positive and in need of dental work. Her puppies are being cared for by other foster families, leaving Sundae with just one thing left to do—wait for the perfect family to fall in love with her.
Mugglequeen shared, “Her ideal family would have a relaxed lifestyle and plenty of patience to help her continue to come out of her shell and build confidence.” Until then, Sundae will stay in her care until she finds her forever home.
Hopefully, this sweet mama will soon find a family to call her own—and gain a lifelong snuggle buddy in the process.
