It’s hard for me to grasp how or why someone could abandon a dog to die, no matter how many stories I come across or cases I see online.
Owning a dog is a blessing, as it creates a lifelong bond with an animal whose only desire is to be by your side, bring you joy, and protect you.
Sadly, there are always those who, for various reasons, believe it’s acceptable to abandon dogs. Chunkie, an unfortunate pup, was one of them—chained up and left outside in harsh weather.
Thankfully, firefighter Mike Thawley from Sacramento’s Fire Station 14 found her just in time. Weak and sick, she had been tied to a post in the rain, left to die, but Mike came to her rescue.
Mike couldn’t leave her behind, so he cleaned her up and took her to the Front Street Animal Shelter for a medical check-up.
Chunkie was diagnosed with mange, and her skin was in terrible condition. But the shelter staff quickly stepped in, treating her illness and dressing her in warm clothes to protect her fragile skin.
It was clear that Chunkie was grateful to be rescued, but she missed Mike, her savior, after he left, as they had formed a special bond.
The next day, however, firefighter Mike returned to the shelter, and their heartwarming reunion was caught on camera. You can watch it through the link below:
Soon after, Mike was able to welcome Chunkie into his own family through adoption. Here’s to their new life together!
It’s a beautiful story of compassion and friendship.
