It’s truly heartbreaking to see a beloved pet left behind, confused and abandoned. Statistics from The Zebra reveal that each year, over 3.9 million dogs are surrendered or abandoned in shelters across the United States. Unfortunately, the dog in today’s story, Chewy, became one of those many dogs.

Chewy’s journey, however, didn’t end with abandonment. This resilient pup found the courage to keep going, eventually regaining his wagging tail and spirit.

In a Las Vegas airport restroom, a 3-month-old Chihuahua named Chewy was found, visibly scared and injured. At first, it appeared to be a case of animal cruelty, but further investigation revealed a far more tragic story.

A handwritten note left with Chewy explained the heartbreaking situation. The owner, escaping an abusive relationship and faced with financial struggles, felt they had no other option but to leave the dog behind.

The note read:

“Hi! I’m Chewy! My owner had to leave an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford to bring me along on her flight. Letting me go was incredibly difficult for her, but she had no other choice. During a fight, her ex-boyfriend hurt me, and I now have a bump on my head that may need a vet’s attention. My owner loves me dearly and just wants someone kind to care for me. Please love and take care of me the way she wishes she could.”

It’s heartbreaking to think of the fear Chewy must have felt.

Relief and Recovery

Fortunately, Chewy was discovered by a compassionate person who took him to Connor and Millie’s Dog Rescue. After a complete examination, it was confirmed that Chewy had no major injuries and was in good health.

With some extra care and attention, Chewy was soon ready to search for his forever home. Thanks to Connor and Millie’s Dog Rescue, Chewy’s story was shared on Facebook, and he quickly found a new loving family.
