For stray animals, life can be incredibly tough. Without shelter or a place to call home, they are constantly exposed to all kinds of weather conditions.
We’ve often heard heartwarming stories of dogs being rescued from the cold by kind-hearted businesses that opened their doors to give them warmth. But extreme heat can also be dangerous for dogs. On one particularly scorching day, a business decided to help a stray dog cool off.
It was an unbearably hot day in Mexico, with temperatures soaring to 104°F, when a stray dog showed up at a local market—a place he had been visiting for several days.
“He’s been around for the past few days,” a store employee told The Dodo. “We believe his owner may have abandoned him. He came to us seeking help.”
“We’ve been able to give him food, water, and a few toys from the store, which we bought with our own money.”
But on this particularly hot day, they decided to do more:
They welcomed the dog inside to cool off!
The dog clearly relished the break from the sweltering heat, plopping down right on the aisle floor for a nap.
“We let him in because the weather outside is just unbearable,” the cashier shared. “We feel sorry for him, and he seems to enjoy being in the store.”
The kindness of the staff inspired others: a customer named Adolfo Pazzi Ahumada, who was there to buy milk, chose to treat the dog to a snack.
“I felt awful for what the dog had endured,” Adolfo told The Dodo. “But now he’s finally receiving the attention he deserves.”
